TikTok Shop is stepping up consumer education and buyer protection efforts in the Philippines ahead of the 11.11 and 12.12 Mega Sales, working with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to encourage more informed online purchases.
The initiative comes as major e-commerce promotions draw shoppers toward discounted products, highlighting the importance of checking seller credentials, product information and available remedies before completing transactions.
Under its #TikTokShopSmart campaign for Consumer Welfare Month, the platform is sharing guidance on product safety, authentic merchandise, consumer rights and procedures for addressing transaction disputes.
TikTok Shop said its safeguards include seller verification, product compliance checks, detection technology and intellectual property protection, as well as return and refund processes.
Its Global Safety Report, covering July 2025 to July 2026, showed that the platform rejected more than 208 million products before listing and removed another 2 million restricted or prohibited products after listing. The figures reflect global operations rather than the Philippine market alone.
“We recognize that consumers need clear, accessible information to understand product details, assess potential risks, and know what steps they can take when a concern arises,” said Yves Gonzalez, TikTok Shop head of public policy for the Philippines.
As part of its collaboration with the DTI, TikTok Shop contributed a session at an assembly of consumer organizations focused on communicating product safety information and consumer rights through digital platforms.
Content creator and business consultant J. Em Ang led the session, discussing how safety warnings, product recalls and consumer advisories can be translated into accessible digital content. The discussion also covered short-form advocacy videos, with emphasis on accuracy and transparency.
Ahead of the shopping events, the campaign is urging consumers to examine product descriptions, customer ratings and seller information before placing orders. It also highlights applicable return and refund procedures and channels for raising transaction concerns.
The effort underscores a broader challenge for online marketplaces of pairing promotional activity with accessible consumer information as shoppers navigate increasingly crowded digital storefronts.
