Microsoft launches AI credential program for Filipino teachers; highlights safe and responsible use

Microsoft has launched Microsoft Elevate for Educators and supporting resources in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), aimed at building teachers’ AI skills and promoting safe, responsible use of the technology in classrooms.

Unveiled Thursday in Makati, the program offers professional training, recognized credentials, and access to a global community of educators. Complementary resources — Behind the Chat and the AI Classroom Toolkit — provide practical guides for teaching students about online safety, privacy, critical thinking, and healthy boundaries when using AI.

The initiative builds on an earlier partnership that will give 1 million public school teachers access to Microsoft Copilot. Over the coming months, the program will train and credential 2,000 DepEd educators across the country. It is supported by the DICT and ChildFund Philippines, and forms part of a broader rollout across Southeast Asia.

Officials emphasized that AI education goes beyond technical skills — it also helps students develop good judgment to navigate digital spaces responsibly. All resources are open to educators, school leaders, and parents.
