PSBank secures top PhilRatings credit rating

Philippine Savings Bank (PSBank) has received the highest issuer credit rating from Philippine Rating Services Corp. (PhilRatings), reflecting its strong capitalization, sound asset quality, leading position in the thrift banking sector and backing from the Metrobank Group.

PhilRatings assigned PSBank a PRS Aaa (corp.) rating with a stable outlook, indicating the bank has a very strong capacity to meet its financial commitments relative to other Philippine companies. The stable outlook suggests the rating is unlikely to change over the next 12 months.

The rating reinforces PSBank’s position as the country’s largest thrift bank by assets, with total assets of P232 billion as of June 30, 2026, based on Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas data. It also led the sector in capital, with P44.2 billion.

The bank maintained a significant share of the thrift banking sector’s auto and real estate lending markets, supported by its established consumer and retail banking franchise.

Its capital adequacy ratio stood at 24 percent at end-June, comfortably above regulatory requirements. Asset quality indicators were also relatively strong, with a gross nonperforming loan ratio of 4 percent, compared with the thrift banking sector’s 6.3 percent.

PhilRatings also cited PSBank’s experienced management team, led by president Jose Vicente Alde, who joined the bank in 2007 and has served as its chief executive since 2018.

The bank’s strong parentage was another factor supporting the rating. Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co. (Metrobank) held an 88.4-percent equity stake in PSBank as of end-June.

PSBank, the Metrobank Group’s consumer and retail banking arm, operates a nationwide network of 250 branches and more than 500 in-branch and offsite automated teller machines.

PhilRatings said it would continue monitoring developments that could affect the bank’s credit profile and may revise the rating or outlook if warranted by changes in its financial condition or operating environment.
