Converge offering two-hour internet connectivity at key airports for free

Converge ICT Solutions Inc. on Tuesday installed free public Wi-Fi at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3, the largest at the NAIA terminal, which handles about 13 million passengers annually.

This was in line with its free pure fiber Wi-Fi project that aims to deliver free connectivity to all the terminals of selected international and domestic airports in the country in partnership with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and several airport operators.

“A reliable and secure connection is a requisite to elevate the travel experience of passengers, especially this holiday season when the passenger volume in our airports is peaking,” Dennis Anthony Uy, Converge chief executive and co-founder, said.

“With this connectivity initiative, we hope we can make their journey smoother and more enjoyable as they experience the capabilities of a pure fiber connection,’ he added.

The free public connectivity enables each registered user two hours of browsing per day.

Converge subscribers get an extra treat as those with a GoFiber account get an additional six hours of free internet access for up to five devices if they input their GoFiber account number in the login page. Prepaid fiber internet subscribers under Surf2Sawa may also enjoy six more hours of free wifi for two devices once an account is registered.

Converge has activated over 120 access points at the four-storey facility, extending free access to reliable, and secure connection to the arrival and departure, waiting and retail areas.

“MIAA is committed to transforming our airports, align with global standards and improve the travel experience of our passengers,” Bryan Co, officer-in-charge at the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), said.

“With Converge as our connectivity partner, we can ensure that our airport terminals are powered with a world-class infrastructure, establishing a more convenient, comfortable, and digitally connected environment for inbound and outbound travelers,” he added.

The NAIA Terminal 3 is the NAIA’s largest hub which has 24 boarding gates and 140 check-in counters that can accommodate an estimated 60,000 passengers per day. Converge plans to cover all four of the terminals having first rolled out the program last July.

In the coming months, other domestic and international gateways will also be covered by free connectivity, including the Francisco Bangoy International Airport, Mactan-Cebu International Airport, Bacolod-Silay Airport, Iloilo International Airport, Laoag International Airport; Pagadian Airport; Tacloban Airport; and Zamboanga International Airport.
