Survey shows Filipinos least likely among Asians to report when they become cybercrime victims

“Leave it to God” appears to be the default attitude of most Filipinos when it comes to cybercrime, the Gogolook’s Asia Scam Report 2023 suggests.

Highlights of the Asia Scam Report were shared by Women in Security Alliance Philippines chair and president Mel Migrino at the recent cybersecurity forum organized by WiSAP, the Association of Informational Security Professionals Singapore and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center.

The latest Asia Scam Report of Gogolook, a world leading trust tech company, showed that among nationals of 11 countries in the region covered by the survey,  Filipinos are the least likely to report to authorities when they become victims of cybercrime.

The survey showed that only one in every four Filipino victims of scams report to authorities  because of the low rate of recovery.

Gogolook’s survey also showed the low rate of reporting by scam victims in Vietnam (26 percent ) and Korea (31.6 percent).

China and Singapore, by contrast, had the highest rates of reporting by scam victims at 55 percent and 51.5 percent, respectively.

Scam Watch Pilipinas lead convenor Jocel De Guzman continued to appeal to victims to report to authorities or call the 1326 Inter-Agency Response Center hotline  as soon as they fall prey to scams.

Meantime, CICC executive director Alexander Ramos vowed during the forum to cooperate with Singapore in the field of cybersecurity.

The forum, held at the National Cybercrime Hub at the Bonifacio Global City on Wednesday, was attended by students and lecturers from Singapore’s Nanyang Polytechnics, Institute of Higher Learning College East and from AiSP.
