ACEN Corp. subsidiary ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (RES) supplies the Asian Development Bank (ADB) with electricity from 100 percent renewable sources.
Under the agreement, ACEN RES commits to power the multilateral’s Mandaluyong headquarters with renewable energy from a portfolio of solar and wind facilities in keeping with its sustainability and environmental commitments.
“As Asia and the Pacific’s climate bank, ADB is committed to lowering its carbon footprint. This includes sourcing electricity from renewable energy sources such as solar and wind,” said Bruce Gosper, ADB vice-president for administration and corporate management, in a statement.
Lakshmi Menon, ADB director general for corporate services, said that as large as the bank’s headquarters are in Mandaluyong, the building consumes less energy than buildings of the same size and occupancy levels.
Menon said the ADB has used renewable energy since 2014 and endeavors to consume less water and paper.
Eric Francia, ACEN president and chief executive officer, said the “ADB has been instrumental in driving the growth of our renewable energy portfolio in the Philippines and around the region through sustainable financing.”
“I’m delighted to see the partnership being extended to the supply of clean energy to ADB’s headquarters, thereby strengthening our collaboration,” Francia said.
ACEN RES also partnered with VSO, manufacturers of automotive and appliance parts, for its transition to 100 percent renewable energy.
The contract was made possible through the government’s Green Energy Option Program enabling electricity consumers of at least 100 kilowatts a month to select their own supplier.
ACEN is one of the fastest growing renewable energy platforms in Asia Pacific.
The business has 4,700 MW of installed capacity and 1,000 MW more in signed contracts won via competitive tenders.
ACEN targets a renewable energy capacity of 20,000 MW by 2030 and a net zero greenhouse gas emissions company by 2050.
ACEN has projects in Australia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, India, United States and Taiwan.
