The Land Transportation Office (LTO) under the Department of Transportation (DOTr), has permanently revoked the driver’s license of the truck operator involved in a deadly road accident on Batasan-San Mateo Road in Quezon City last week.
The decision, announced by Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, comes after the driver tested positive for illegal drugs, in violation of the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act, and the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
According to a 3 June newspaper account, the crash resulted in multiple casualties and reignited public calls for stricter traffic enforcement. In response, the LTO issued a resolution not only revoking the driver’s license but also permanently barring the individual from reapplying for any driving privilege.
“This is aligned with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to prioritize road safety for all,” Dizon said. “Irresponsible drivers have no place on the road, and we will ensure they are no longer able to drive.”
The revocation underscores a growing policy emphasis on accountability in transportation regulation, with DOTr signaling zero tolerance for drug-impaired and reckless driving as part of broader road safety reforms.
