LRT-1 Cavite Extension program begins building final three stations in 2026

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said the Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) is scheduled to begin construction of the three remaining stations of the LRT Line 1 Cavite Extension program in 2026.

Transport undersecretary for Railway Jeremy Region told reporters the right of way (ROW) for segments 2 and 3 of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension project is more than 80 percent complete.

Packages 2 and 3 of the project cover the construction of the Las Piñas, Zapote and Niog stations.

“It’s just the relocation of utilities that needs to be done and a few lots. Hopefully by the end of next year the ROW will be completed,” he said.

The Phase 1 of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension is on schedule to open by the fourth quarter this year.

The five stations under Phase 1 are at varying stages of completion, with Redemptorist Station 97.4 percent complete, the MIA Station at 97.2 percent, the Asia World Station at 90.4 percent, the Ninoy Aquino Station at 93.5 percent, and the Dr. Santos Station at 97.7 percent.

All five stations boast of an inclusive design, featuring two elevators per station for easy access by persons with disabilities (PWDs). Escalators will serve both northbound and southbound passengers, ensuring a smooth flow of traffic.

The LRT-1 Dr. Santos Station, the end terminal for Phase 1, will serve as a major transit hub. Passengers have seamless access to various modes of transportation through the intermodal facility.

The intermodal facility has a vast 10,740-square-meter lot area with access to and from Dr. A. Santos Ave. and C5 Road Extension. It will have designated bays for public buses, jeepneys, taxis, private cars, motorcycles and dedicated parking slots for PWDs.

The project is expected to add some 300,000 passengers daily to the LRT-1 ridership, bringing the total to 800,000 in the first year of full operations in 2031, according to LRMC.

The line will connect Manila to Cavite and cut the travel time from Baclaran, Pasay to Niog, Cavite from 1 hour and 10 minutes via local roads to 25 minutes via LRT-1.
