Globe Telecom has made significant strides in its sustainability efforts by transitioning 20 major facilities to 100 percent renewable energy over the past five years, with plans for three additional sites by year-end.
The facilities consumed about 65 million kilowatt-hours of energy in 2023, allowing Globe to avoid approximately 42,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions, according to a company release.
This achievement is part of a strategic partnership with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES), which has been pivotal since their collaboration began in 2019. Globe aims to increase its RE-powered sites to nearly 70 by 2026, showcasing its commitment to sustainability as a core aspect of its business strategy.
Ernest Cu, Globe president and CEO, emphasized the importance of renewable energy in building business resilience against climate change. Eric Francia, ACEN president and CEO, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the synergy between digitalization and sustainability.
Globe was recently awarded the Powered by Renewable Energy badge by ACEN RES, recognizing its commitment to sustainable practices. This collaboration underscores Globe’s position as a leader in environmental sustainability in the Philippines.
