GT Capital Holdings, Inc. has hailed the launch of Toyota Motor Philippines’ (TMP) Next Generation Tamaraw, describing the model as a “game changer” in the Philippine automotive industry. The highly anticipated vehicle aims to set new standards in versatility and accessibility, catering to both personal and commercial mobility needs across the country.
The nationwide launch, held over the weekend in Metro Manila, Laguna, Pampanga, Cebu, Davao, and Cagayan de Oro, showcased the Tamaraw’s wide array of customization options. From dropside trucks to utility vans and aluminum vans, the Next Generation Tamaraw is designed to provide tailored solutions for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), a key segment in the Philippine economy.
GT Capital, a joint venture partner of Toyota Motor Corporation and Mitsui & Co. Ltd. in TMP, expressed confidence that the Tamaraw will have a significant impact on the automotive sector and the broader economy. “With its diverse conversion options, the Tamaraw is set to make mobility solutions more inclusive and accessible, particularly for MSMEs,” said Vince S. Socco, Chairman of GT Capital’s Auto & Mobility Holdings, Inc. (GTCAM). “We are confident the Next Generation Tamaraw will be a key driver of growth for both TMP and GT Capital,” he added.
The Tamaraw is poised to support local businesses while marking a significant milestone for TMP’s operations. The new model, built on Toyota’s global IMV platform, is the third vehicle to be locally produced at TMP’s Santa Rosa plant. The plant’s new conversion facility is capable of producing three types of rear-body configurations for the Tamaraw, with both gas and diesel engine options.
The launch highlights Toyota’s continued commitment to the Philippines, with TMP contributing nearly P5.5 billion in investment, technology transfer, and almost P30 billion in taxes paid as of October. TMP also supports nearly 70,000 jobs across its network of suppliers, dealers, and business partners.
