The Philippine Airlines is set to significantly upgrade its long-haul operations after announcing the acquisition of 15 fuel-efficient Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner jets, with an option to purchase five more. The landmark agreement, revealed at the Farnborough International Airshow, marks the airline’s first order with the American aerospace manufacturer since 2007 and celebrates an 80-year partnership between the two companies.
The flag carrier, which is the only airline in the Philippines to operate Boeing aircraft for passenger flights, expects the new fleet to be delivered between 2031 and 2034. Company executives said the multi-billion dollar investment reflects strong confidence in the future of air travel and aligns with the airline’s long-term sustainability goals.
The advanced composite materials and next-generation engines of the 787-10 will allow PAL to substantially cut fuel consumption and carbon emissions compared to its older aircraft. For travelers, the new jets promise an enhanced cabin experience featuring quieter interiors, better air quality, higher humidity levels, and the largest windows in the commercial aviation industry.
The deal also highlights a strong economic connection to the Philippines, where major Boeing suppliers like Moog, Rockwell Collins, and JAMCO operate local production facilities. These local plants will directly support the global Dreamliner manufacturing process by producing flight control systems, hydraulics, and interior panels, thereby sustaining local jobs and technology transfer.
