MDC unveils first electric construction equipment, pioneers greener construction practices

Makati Development Corp. (MDC), the construction arm of Ayala Land, has launched the country’s first electric cement mixer, trailer tractor, and EV charging station for heavy equipment. This innovation marks a significant step in the company’s commitment to sustainability, reshaping the construction industry with greener practices.

The unveiling took place at the MDC Technology Center in Sto. Tomas, Batangas, where MDC’s COO Robert N. Baffrey and head of construction methods Romeo T. Menpin, Jr. blessed the new electric vehicles (EVs) and charging infrastructure. This includes an electric concrete mixer and trailer tractor from Sany, as well as electric service vehicles from BYD, paired with new charging stations across key MDC locations.

As part of its broader sustainability strategy, MDC aims to reduce carbon emissions, projecting savings of up to 10,000 tons annually once fully implemented. The initiative aligns with MDC’s eco-friendly construction goals and its ongoing push for responsible, renewable-powered operations.

Additionally, MDC is advancing its use of Design for Modular Construction (DfMC), which focuses on off-site prefabrication to reduce waste, improve building quality, and accelerate project timelines. With a 46% adoption rate, MDC’s integration of DfMC sets a new standard for efficiency in the industry.

These developments underscore MDC’s leadership in driving sustainable innovation within the Philippine construction sector.
