VITRO Inc, Nokia forge AI-driven data center alliance

VITRO Inc., the data center arm of PLDT Inc. in the Philippines, has entered into a strategic partnership with global telecommunications leader Nokia to develop AI-ready data center solutions aimed at bolstering network security, scalability, and operational efficiency.

The collaboration, formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), combines VITRO’s advanced data center infrastructure with Nokia’s cutting-edge networking technologies. The focus is on creating data center solutions optimized for AI workloads, including Generative AI (GenAI) training and inference. This move positions VITRO as a frontrunner in meeting the growing demand for AI-capable infrastructure in the region.

A key aspect of the partnership is the joint exploration of innovative technology solutions and commercial models that will differentiate VITRO in the market. The companies are conducting several Proof-of-Concept (PoC) trials, including the testing of Quantum-Safe Networking (QSN), which will fortify VITRO’s Data Center Interconnect (DCI) infrastructure. This will employ encryption resistant to quantum computing threats, ensuring long-term data security and confidentiality for VITRO customers.

“We are excited to collaborate with Nokia to drive AI adoption in the Philippines,” said Victor S. Genuino, president and CEO of ePLDT & VITRO Inc. “This partnership reinforces our commitment to delivering secure, innovative data center solutions that empower businesses in the AI era.”

Nokia’s advanced technologies, such as Data Center Fabric with Event-Driven Automation (EDA) and Quantum-Safe IP/Optical Transport, will enhance VITRO’s Data Center Interconnect (DCI) infrastructure, creating a scalable, automated, and secure environment. These innovations are crucial for AI, cloud, and mission-critical applications, aligning with VITRO’s broader strategy to elevate the Philippines’ digital transformation.

Nokia’s senior vice president for network infrastructure in APAC, Xulei Sang, emphasized the significance of the partnership: “Nokia is committed to supporting the digital transformation of enterprises in the Philippines, and we believe this collaboration will play a key role in achieving this goal.”

The MoU signing was witnessed by Gary F. Ignacio, chief commercial officer of VITRO Inc., and Anthony Valdez, Nokia Philippines country manager, alongside other executives from both organizations.
