BOC NAIA seizes P4.4M worth of ecstasy, heroin in parcels

The Bureau of Customs at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-NAIA) today (13 May 2025) confiscated six parcels containing Ecstasy and heroin valued at approximately PhP4.43 million.

The illegal shipments, intercepted at the Central Mail Exchange Center, included 1,330 tablets of Ecstasy and 362 grams of heroin. The drugs were smuggled from Ireland, the Netherlands, and Thailand and concealed in misdeclared packages labeled as skincare products and plumbing materials.

The operation was carried out in close coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG).

Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio reaffirmed the BOC’s commitment to safeguard the country’s borders from illegal drug entry, in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

“These seizures demonstrate our resolve to dismantle drug smuggling networks through enhanced intelligence, inter-agency collaboration, and strict screening protocols,” Rubio said.

The confiscated drugs have been turned over to PDEA for further investigation and appropriate legal action pursuant to Republic Act No. 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) and Republic Act No. 10863 (Customs Modernization and Tariff Act).

District Collector Atty. Yasmin O. Mapa underscored BOC-NAIA’s intensified enforcement capabilities, attributing the successful operation to improved screening processes and coordinated efforts with enforcement partners.

Authorities assured the public that surveillance and inspection measures remain on high alert to curb the entry of illegal substances through mail and cargo channels.
