The Department of Health (DOH) said it is closely monitoring recent increases in COVID-19 cases elsewhere in Southeast Asia.
While the rise in cases has been noted in several neighboring countries, the DOH said there is currently no cause for alarm in the Philippines.
“We are actively coordinating through established mechanisms like ASEAN,” the DOH said in a statement. “This gives us verified information, boosting readiness even as we see no cause for alarm.”
Contrary to regional trends, the Philippines continues to report declining COVID-19 figures. As of May 3, 2025, the country recorded an 87 percent drop in both cases and fatalities compared to the same period in 2024.
Data showed that only 1,774 COVID-19 cases have been reported this year, a steep decline from 14,074 cases in 2024. The case fatality rate remains low at 1.13 percent.
Recent data also show a slight downward trend in weekly cases over the past month. From March 23 to April 5, there were 71 reported cases, which decreased to 65 from April 6 to 19.
The DOH reassured the public that it remains committed to transparent communication and will issue timely updates if the situation changes. In the meantime, the department encourages continued adherence to basic health precautions such as wearing face masks in healthcare facilities, staying home when feeling unwell, covering the mouth when coughing or sneezing, washing hands frequently with soap and water, and seeking early medical consultation when there are symptoms.
