Manila Water Co. Inc. announced Tuesday that its ₱13-million wastewater recovery upgrade at the Cardona Water Treatment Plant in Rizal is set for completion by September, a move that promises long-term benefits for consumers through enhanced water sustainability and improved service reliability.
The project is designed to treat and reuse over 6 million liters of brine wastewater per day, which will significantly reduce the facility’s water usage and operational costs. The initiative includes the installation of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipelines, energy-efficient submersible pumps, upgraded electrical components, and smart automation systems to improve real-time monitoring and plant control.
“This project doesn’t just boost our efficiency and reduce costs—it plays a crucial role in minimizing environmental impact,” said Jeric Sevilla, head of Manila Water’s corporate communication affairs group. “We’re taking a meaningful step toward sustainable wastewater management.”
The Cardona plant serves customers in Rizal Province, part of Manila Water’s East Zone service area, which includes key areas in Metro Manila such as Makati, Pasig, and Marikina. The upgrade is expected to enhance service stability and water security for thousands of residents by ensuring more sustainable use of resources.
With this development, consumers can look forward to more reliable water services and a lower environmental footprint—aligned with the growing demand for eco-friendly infrastructure in urban water management.
