Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon on Friday vowed to come down hard on online scammers and fixers peddling fake driver’s licenses, following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to clean up the system and enhance road safety.
Following the arrest of individuals by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG), Dizon warned that violators face up to 12 years in prison. “We will catch everyone who posts online scams and put them in jail,” he said.
The initiative underscores the growing concern over how counterfeit licenses enable unqualified drivers to roam as deadly mobile risks on the roads. Dizon said, “They don’t know that what they are doing can potentially kill our countrymen.”
In addition to targeting online operations, the LTO has suspended 107 driving schools for issuing fraudulent training certificates, particularly those involved in the so-called “no-show” scheme.
The campaign signals a policy shift toward stricter enforcement and regulatory oversight of licensing and road safety protocols.
