Globe leads PH’s first GSMA SGP.32 eSIM trial

Globe Telecom has partnered with global eSIM leader Thales and regional telecom consortium Bridge Alliance to launch a Proof of Concept (PoC) for the GSMA SGP.32 eSIM standard in the Philippines, marking a major step in the country’s enterprise IoT development.

The agreement positions Globe as the first telco in the Philippines to trial the new GSMA-developed eSIM specification, aimed at delivering scalable, secure, and flexible IoT connectivity across industries. The initiative is expected to drive innovation in enterprise IoT, where adoption remains in early stages, by streamlining device management and cross-border connectivity.

Under the collaboration, Thales provides its Adaptive Connect Services, enabling bulk remote provisioning, SIM profile switching, and lifecycle management for enterprise-grade IoT devices. Bridge Alliance, whose members include Singtel (Singapore), Optus (Australia), and AIS (Thailand), acts as project manager to simulate real-world, multi-market deployments, paving the way for regional readiness of SGP.32.

“This PoC lays the foundation for more efficient, flexible IoT deployments tailored to Philippine enterprises,” said Carl Cruz, Globe president and CEO.

The commercial impact is significant: by enabling seamless and secure device onboarding across networks, the technology will reduce operational complexity for enterprise clients and open the platform to OEMs and Globe Business customers once commercial roll-out begins. The PoC is scheduled to commence in Q3 2025, ahead of the broader market availability of SGP.32-compatible devices.

With the Philippine IoT market projected to hit ₱410 billion by 2029, this initiative underscores Globe’s ambition to lead in the country’s smart infrastructure evolution and support industries from manufacturing to smart mobility.
