DITO allots ₱15B for 5G broadband reach expansion

DITO Telecommunity Corp. is earmarking ₱15 billion in capital expenditure this year to accelerate the nationwide rollout of its 5G infrastructure and strengthen its mobile broadband services across the Philippines. The investment underscores its commitment to expanding next-generation connectivity, particularly in areas where fiber deployment remains impractical.

DITO president Eric Alberto said the 2025 spending ranges from ₱10 billion and ₱15 billion, depending on market demand, with the bulk dedicated to 5G technology. “Naturally, not only here in the Philippines but all over the world, people are investing more in 5G technologies, particularly in markets like ours where fiber isn’t viable,” he said.

DITO’s network reaches over 86 percent of the population, with 25 percent of its infrastructure already 5G-enabled. The company also projects over ₱20 billion in revenue this year, attributing the growth to effective cost control. “We’ve managed to keep our cost down,” Alberto said.

Beyond network expansion, Alberto voiced support for the telecom industry’s position on the proposed Konektadong Pinoy Bill, advocating for regulatory fairness. He emphasized the need to maintain consistent rules for all players, including incumbents, to attract serious investment in the capital-intensive telecom sector.

“We had to go through a rigid selection process, satisfy regulatory audits, and pay fees. Liberalizing without regard to these obligations doesn’t create a level playing field,” he said, stressing the importance of regulatory stability amid evolving technologies.
