The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has disbursed over P1.5 billion in emergency loans to more than 44,000 government employees and pensioners affected by recent calamities, including Tropical Storms Crising, Dante, and Emong.
GSIS officer-in-charge Juliet M. Bautista said the high number of applicants reflects the urgent financial needs of those impacted by the disasters. “GSIS is here to extend support where it matters most,” she added.
The emergency loan program offers up to P40,000 for active members and P20,000 for pensioners, with a 6 percent annual interest, payable in 36 monthly installments. The loan is secured by loan redemption insurance, which cancels the balance upon the borrower’s death if payments are current.
Eligible applicants must reside or work in government-declared calamity areas, with loan application periods varying per locality. Ongoing availment deadlines range from August 15 to October 28 in areas including Siquijor, Pangasinan, Cavite, Quezon City, and others.
GSIS encourages members to check their website or official social media channels for updates on eligible areas and deadlines.
