DOTr fast-tracks infrastructure to catch EU business

Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez announced Tuesday that the Philippines is accelerating major transportation infrastructure projects to position the country as an investment hub in Asia.

Speaking at a meeting with the EU-ASEAN Business Council, Lopez said the Department of Transportation (DOTr) is fast-tracking initiatives in aviation, railways, maritime, and road sectors in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to spur economic growth and ease commuter congestion.

“This meeting comes at an opportune time as the Philippines continues to position itself as a dynamic investment hub,” Lopez said, expressing optimism over the potential for stronger collaboration with European investors.

Lopez sought the council’s support in improving commuter efficiency through reliable public transportation, highlighting projects under the Public Transport Modernization Program (PTMP), public-private partnerships (PPP), and infrastructure coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The EU-ASEAN Business Council, in partnership with the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP), brought in leading European firms to explore investment opportunities and strengthen cooperation with the Philippine government.
