Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon confirmed Friday the irrevocable resignation of undersecretary Arrey Perez following allegations linking him to contractors involved in flood control projects. The move comes amid a broader directive from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to purge the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) of corruption.
Perez, who oversaw convergence projects and technical services, stepped down after Batangas Rep. Leandro Leviste identified him as a former Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. executive allegedly connected to questionable contractors.
“I told him I would investigate him first. He accepted that and chose to resign,” Dizon said, adding that Perez expressed he did not want to be a burden to the agency. Dizon described the resignation as a show of delicadeza, or a sense of propriety.
Despite Perez’s departure, Dizon emphasized that the investigation will continue and that no one will be spared—whether resigned, incumbent, or previously appointed officials. The resignation is seen as an early test of Marcos’ anti-corruption push within the DPWH, one of the government’s most resource-heavy agencies.
