Airports recharged, reliability ramped at Panglao, Laguindingan

Aboitiz InfraCapital (AIC) has flipped the switch on a wave of behind-the-scenes upgrades at two of the country’s busiest provincial gateways—Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA) and Laguindingan International Airport (LIA)—quiet improvements that promise louder wins for travelers.

The two airports, which AIC took over in mid-2025 under a public-private partnership with the Department of Transportation and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, have undergone a targeted tune-up of critical systems that keep passenger flow smooth and terminals humming.

Among the fixes: long-overdue elevator repairs for easier mobility; fresh assessments of UPS units to guard against power interruptions; and baggage carousel servicing to speed up the all-important “get me out of here” moment at arrivals.

At Bohol-Panglao, preventive maintenance stretched further—covering passenger boarding bridges and baggage weighing scales—to shore up both safety and convenience.

“These improvements reflect our shared commitment with the government to make every AIC Airports experience safer, more efficient, and more enjoyable,” said AIC President & Chief Executive Officer Cosette V. Canilao, calling BPIA and LIA “reliable gateways” that support tourism, logistics, and regional growth.

The upgrades are among the earliest proof points of the government’s strategy to modernize provincial airports through PPPs—an approach that promises faster delivery of better facilities and services for passengers, airport workers, and host communities.

All this feeds into AIC Airports’ broader vision: a network expected to serve 16 million passengers by year-end, anchored by Mactan-Cebu as the Connectivity Hub, Bohol-Panglao as the Leisure Hub, and Laguindingan as the Service Hub powering Mindanao’s commerce.

More modernization—from terminal expansion to capacity boosts—rolls out beginning 2025, pushing Philippine airports closer to world-class status.
