P20 rice takes center stage at Intramuros Agri Expo

The Department of Agriculture (DA) will sell rice at P20 per kilo during the Kadiwa ng Pangulo (KNP) Expo 2025, happening from 28 to 30 November this year in Intramuros, Manila. Officials say this will be the largest Metro Manila rollout of the program so far, aimed at helping vulnerable groups such as farmers, fisherfolk, transport workers, and low-income households.

The three-day expo will also showcase an expanded KADIWA rolling store network—including food hubs, trucks, centers, and karts—designed to stabilize supply chains and give consumers easier access to affordable goods.

DA leaders said the event will spotlight success stories from farmers and local communities, showing improvements in income, productivity, food access, and resilience.

Assistant secretary Genevieve Velicaria-Guevarra described the initiative as more than just a market, calling it a “governance instrument” that strengthens agrifood systems while keeping nutritious food within reach.

Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said the expo reflects the administration’s commitment to making food security an everyday reality, adding that improving producer-to-consumer links will help build a fairer and more sustainable food system.

Visitors can expect a wide range of affordable agricultural products, plus a free agribusiness investment forum on November 29, offering insights on market trends and opportunities in the agri-fishery sector.

Current rice prices in Metro Manila remain far above the expo’s subsidized rate. As of November 22, well-milled local rice averaged P43.06/kg, while premium local varieties reached P48.97/kg. Imported rice ranged from P38.85 to P58.83/kg, depending on the type.
