BSP opens first central banking symposium in Bohol

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) held its inaugural “Central Banking Symposium” on 24 November 2025 in Panglao, Bohol, launching a new forum for discussing modern monetary policy challenges.

BSP Governor Eli M. Remolona emphasized the theme “Anchoring Policy in an Era of Shocks,” saying strong policy fundamentals help keep the economy steady amid global uncertainty. Former Bank of Thailand Governor Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput, the keynote speaker, echoed this message, noting that in today’s volatile environment, “robust is the new boring.”

The event featured discussions led by BSP Deputy Governor Zeno Ronald R. Abenoja, UP Professor Emeritus Dante B. Canlas, and AMRO economist Andrew Tsang. Participants included Monetary Board members, senior BSP officials, financial industry leaders, economists, and members of the press.

Topics ranged from how households form inflation expectations to deposit behavior, financial stability, and the role of the exchange rate in monetary policy. The BSP aims to make the symposium an annual platform to support deeper understanding of macro-financial issues and strengthen evidence-based policymaking.
