Electronic driver’s licenses valid for driving — DOTr

Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said Tuesday that electronic driver’s licenses (eDLs) are fully recognized as valid identification for driving.

Lopez said this follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to speed up processes without weakening traffic laws.

Under Department of Transportation Department Order No. 2023-015, drivers may use an eDL in place of a physical license. Law enforcers are required to accept the eDL as valid authorization to operate a motor vehicle.

Lopez said drivers who do not have their physical card can show their eDL through the Land Transportation Management System (LTMS) portal if apprehended for a violation.

He added that every driver who applies for or renews a license through the LTMS automatically has an eDL, which can be accessed using an LTMS account. This also removes the need to confiscate physical licenses.

The eDL can be accessed via the LTMS portal or the eGovPH Super App.

Lopez also reminded motorists that Temporary Operator’s Permit (TOP) fines for traffic violations can now be paid online.
