Transmission charges dip in January bills, helping homes and businesses

Electricity consumers will pay slightly lower transmission charges in their January 2026 power bills, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said.

NGCP reported that the average transmission rate for the December 2025 billing period, reflected in January bills, fell by 0.68 percent to P1.3455 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) from P1.3547 per kWh. The reduction was mainly due to lower ancillary service (AS) charges, as increased supply in the market pushed prices down.

AS rates, which cover costs paid to power generators that provide backup supply during power imbalances, declined by 4 percent to P0.5971 per kWh in December from P0.6217 per kWh in November. NGCP said these costs are pass-through charges and do not generate income for the company.

Partly offsetting the drop, NGCP’s transmission wheeling rate—or the cost of delivering power through the grid—rose by 2.8 percent to P0.6058 per kWh from P0.5894 per kWh.

NGCP said the overall rate cut offers modest relief to households and businesses, even as electricity demand continues to grow. The company expects peak power demand this year to rise by 13.32 percent in Luzon, 24.12 percent in the Visayas, and 12.34 percent in Mindanao, driven by population growth, economic activity, and ongoing development.

NGCP operates, maintains, and develops the country’s state-owned power grid.
