Grab Philippines posts notice on still unclaimed refunds worth P6.66 million

Grab Philippines on Sunday bared having started notifying riders of unclaimed refunds worth P6.66 million which may now be claimed as rebate vouchers via one’s in-app GrabRewards.

“If you are one of these users, your rebate is waiting to be claimed via your in-app GrabRewards catalogue,” Grab said in an advisory posted on May 19, which also included instructions on how to access the refunds.

According to Grab, some of its riders have yet to claim the three-year-old Philippine Competition Commission-approved rebate vouchers which will also expire on 18 July 2023.

“The reminders were also sent to users via in-app notifications, emails and SMS, and were also posted on Grab’s social media platforms and published in major newspapers,” Grab said.

“Refund beneficiaries were likewise reminded that the rebates will expire and unclaimed amounts will be remitted to the Philippine National Treasury per the PCC Resolution dated 2 February 2023,” it added.

As early as Monday following the posting of the PCC resolution on its website on 15 May, Grab Philippines director for public affairs and lawyer Sherielysse Bonifacio said the company is ready to implement the directive to refund the remaining P6.66 million due the Grab users who qualify for them.

She said the transport network company had every intention to fulfill its obligation to refund Grab users as directed by the PCC.

“Never have we reneged on our obligation to refund the P25 million to the affected riders,” said the lawyer who welcomed the release of the PCC resolution. That directive was for Grab Philippines to refund Grab users for trips taken between 2018 and 2019.

According to the lawyer, Grab filed several motions requesting the PCC for guidance as to how to disburse the unclaimed rebates prior to the release of the PCC resolution.

Grab Philippines earlier successfully refunded 73.8 percent or P18.78 million of the P25.4 million Grab was ordered to pay.
