Bataan resident feedback sought in P500-M poultry farm project

Residents of Abucay in Bataan will get a first look at a proposed P500-million poultry farm as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, through the Environmental Management Bureau, opens a public scoping on February 24, 2026. The session aims to hear the public’s views, questions, and concerns before the project moves forward.

The ambitious plan comes from Charoen Pokphand Foods Philippines Corp., a local branch of Thailand’s agribusiness giant Charoen Pokphand Foods PLC. According to documents released by the EMB, the facility will sit on 42 hectares leased from STS Ventures Inc. and house up to 960,000 broiler chickens under a modern tunnel-ventilated system.

The company promises that the farm will be environmentally controlled, compliant with national and local regulations, and designed to boost efficiency in production, storage, and distribution. Officials note that beyond chicken production, the project could strengthen the local economy, generate jobs, and support suppliers and logistics networks in the region.

Strategically located for easy access to markets and transport networks, the farm is also pitched as a step toward improving food security, ensuring more reliable access to affordable protein for the country’s population. If all goes according to plan, construction is set for completion by December 2028, with commercial operations slated to start in January 2029.

This public scoping offers the community a chance to weigh in on a project that promises both economic opportunity and food supply benefits, signaling a key moment for Abucay’s agricultural landscape.
