ROW delays continue to hinder LRT-1 Cavite Extension completion

The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) is still facing right-of-way (ROW) issues for the final segments of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension, which could affect when commuters can fully benefit from the new line.

LRTA administration Hernando Cabrera said that while Package 3 of the project—reaching Niog Station in Bacoor—has 100 percent of its ROW secured, Package 2, which covers the Las Piñas and Zapote stations, has less than 70 percent acquired. Delays were largely caused by complications with a flyover near Las Piñas Station.

“We aim to finish delivering the ROW by the end of this year or early next year,” Cabrera said, noting that construction cannot proceed until the land is fully acquired.

The LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 opened for commercial operations in November 2024, adding five new stations: Redemptorist–Aseana, MIA Road, PITX, Ninoy Aquino Avenue, and Dr. Santos (formerly Sucat). The extension stretches the rail line from 20.7 kilometers with 20 stations to 27 kilometers.

Once completed, the extension is expected to carry an additional 80,000 passengers daily, easing congestion on southern Metro Manila roads and providing commuters a faster, more reliable alternative to road travel.
