The government on Thursday inaugurated the new EDSA Kamuning Busway Station and footbridge, replacing the steep and widely criticized “Mt. Kamuning” pedestrian bridge that commuters had long struggled to use.
Led by Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the project connects the EDSA Busway station directly to the MRT-3 GMA Kamuning Station, making transfers between buses and trains easier.
The President said the old footbridge was impractical and difficult to climb, prompting the government to build a new, more accessible crossing. Construction was completed in about four months following his directive to transport officials.
For commuters, the new structure means fewer stairs and improved accessibility. It includes elevators, a wheelchair lift, and wider walkways to make it easier for elderly passengers, persons with disabilities, pregnant women, and other commuters to cross EDSA and access public transport.
Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said the facility was designed to be both sturdy and inclusive, with multiple elevators and accessibility features. Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon added that the upgrade is part of the broader rehabilitation of EDSA.
The new station also features brighter lighting, wider platforms, tactile tiles for the visually impaired, wayfinding signs, a fare matrix, seating areas, and other commuter-friendly facilities.
Officials said the modernization aims to make daily travel safer and more convenient for thousands of commuters who use the EDSA Busway and MRT system.
