The PLDT Group blocked 83,000 attempts to access illegal child sexual abuse and exploitation materials (CSAEM) in January 2026, a 50 percent drop from the same period in 2025.
Since launching its Child Protection Platform in 2021, PLDT and Smart Communications have blacklisted around two million websites and links containing child exploitation content, preventing access to online sexual abuse and exploitation of children (OSAEC).
Roby T. Alampay, first vice president of PLDT and Smart, emphasized the company’s role in creating safe digital spaces for children, noting that technology alone is not enough. PLDT works with parents, schools, communities, and government to raise awareness and protect children online.
Through PLDT Enterprise, the company also supports the MAKABATA Helpline 1383, the national reporting system for child protection cases managed by the Council for the Welfare of Children. In 2024, the helpline received over 1,000 reports of abuse and custody concerns.
PLDT Enterprise also helped roll out Unified 911 in 2025, a cloud-based emergency response platform linking police, fire, medical, and rescue services nationwide via voice, video, and GPS-enabled reporting.
Amid congressional discussions on limiting children’s gadget use, PLDT urged a balanced approach combining safeguards, digital literacy, and parental guidance to allow children to benefit safely from internet access.
