P4M food hub upgrade boosts women’s livelihood in Muntinlupa

The Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Muntinlupa city government have invested P4 million to upgrade a local food hub that supports women-led enterprises and community food production.

Through its KADIWA Financial Grant Assistance Program, the DA provided P2.5 million to modernize the Muntinlupa Training and Resource Center for Women (MTRCW). The Muntinlupa local government added P1.5 million, completing the funding for the facility upgrade.

The improved food hub now has modern equipment for processing meat and fish. This allows local women’s cooperatives to produce preservative-free products such as tapa, tocino, longganisa, and bangus-based items.

Officials said the upgrade will help improve food safety standards, product quality, and market competitiveness. It will also expand livelihood opportunities for women in the community.

According to DA officials, the project aims to empower women by helping them earn income while supporting local food production. Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon said the initiative will strengthen the local economy and bring practical benefits to residents.

The upgraded facility is expected to serve as a sustainable food hub where women can develop skills, run small food businesses, and contribute to long-term community growth. It is also part of the DA’s effort to promote inclusive development and strengthen local participation in the agri-food value chain.
