Philippine Airlines posts strong profitability in 2025

Philippine Airlines maintained solid profitability in 2025, reporting a net income of USD 160.4 million despite a more challenging global aviation environment. Total revenues reached USD3.22 billion, up 3.0 percent from USD3.13 billion in 2024, supported by consistent performance across the airline’s core businesses.

The Passenger segment remained the primary revenue driver, generating USD2.73 billion. PAL carried 16.3 million passengers during the year, a 4.3 percent increase from 2024, and increased capacity, measured in Available Seat Kilometers (ASKs), by 3.3 percent to 46.19 billion. Passenger load factor was slightly lower at 78.7 percent compared to 79.1 percent in 2024.

Ancillary revenues rose 24.9 percent year-on-year to USD301.2 million, driven largely by seat upgrades, now representing 9.4 percent of total revenues. Cargo revenues also increased 3.7 percent to USD165.0 million, supported by a 1.8 percent rise in cargo volume to 187.5 million kilograms, accounting for 5.2 percent of total revenue.

Total operating expenses grew 6.3 percent to nearly USD3.0 billion due to higher flight operations, maintenance, and structural costs. Income from operations reached USD228 million, yielding a 7 percent operating margin. The company generated USD645.8 million in cash from operations and spent USD447.5 million on investing activities, mainly for fleet maintenance and expansion, including deliveries of A321ceo and A320‑200 aircraft.

“Our 2025 results validate PAL’s successful transition from post-pandemic recovery to sustainable, long-term growth,” stated Richard Nuttall, President of Philippine Airlines. “Despite an industry-wide softening of passenger yields, we successfully defended our top line through disciplined revenue and network management. To navigate significant cost pressures, we are aggressively driving internal efficiencies. Simultaneously, we are heavily investing across our end-to-end passenger journey, particularly in continuously improving our On-Time Performance, to deliver a reliable and seamless customer experience anchored on the world-class service and genuine care that define Philippine Airlines.”

A key milestone was the arrival of PAL’s first Airbus A350‑1000 in December 2025, making it the first Southeast Asian carrier to operate this next-generation widebody.

Operationally, PAL was recognized by Cirium as the most punctual airline in Asia Pacific, highlighting its focus on reliability, responsible growth, and service excellence amid a dynamic global aviation environment.
