DOE: Fuel prices set for big rollback next week

The Department of Energy (DOE) said fuel prices will go down next week, with minimum rollbacks estimated at ₱4.43 per liter for gasoline, ₱20.89 for diesel, and ₱8.50 for kerosene.

DOE Secretary Sharon Garin clarified that these are minimum reductions, noting that pump prices may still vary across gas stations. The adjustments are based on the average of international fuel prices over the past five days compared to the previous week.

A fuel retailer, speaking anonymously, gave a different forecast, saying gasoline prices may stay the same or drop by up to ₱1.50 per liter, while diesel could decrease by ₱8.80 to ₱10.80 per liter. The expected price cuts are linked to a stronger Philippine peso and easing tensions in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, the DOE reported that a second diesel shipment under its Emergency Energy Security Program arrived from Malaysia, totaling 329,000 barrels. This follows an earlier delivery of 142,000 barrels from Japan on March 26.

The government has secured a total of 900,000 barrels of diesel, with more shipments expected later in April, possibly from India. Officials said these efforts aim to strengthen fuel supply amid global uncertainties.

As of March 31 to April 6, average fuel prices in Metro Manila stood at ₱91 per liter for gasoline, ₱128.80 for diesel, and ₱155 for kerosene. Updated price data for the current week is still pending.
