Converge deploys high-speed fiber backbone support for ASEAN venues in Manila

The country’s hosting of key Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) meetings is being supported by high-speed internet from fiber broadband provider Converge ICT Solutions Inc., which has been named the official connectivity partner of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

Converge is providing internet speeds ranging from 1 gigabit to 5 gigabits per second across major meeting venues and key locations nationwide. This includes airports, hotels, and conference sites used for the ASEAN events.

So far, 11 sites in Metro Manila and Cebu have been activated. For the upcoming 48th ASEAN Summit in May, Converge will deliver up to 5-gigabit connectivity at the new Mactan Expo Center.

Other connected venues include major hotels such as NuStar Integrated Hotel and Casino, Diamond Hotel Manila Bay, The Peninsula Manila, and Crimson Resort and Spa Boracay.

For arrivals, Converge has also upgraded internet capacity to 10 Gbps across terminals 1, 2, and 3 of Ninoy Aquino International Airport to ensure delegates stay connected upon landing.

Officials said strong internet support is important as the country hosts nearly all ASEAN committee and ministerial meetings this year. While around 650 preparatory meetings were held online due to a national fuel-related emergency, the main summit will proceed as a face-to-face event.

DICT Secretary Henry Aguda praised the partnership, saying reliable connectivity is essential for the success of international events and reflects strong regional cooperation within Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
