Philippine logistics urged to embrace blockchain now

FAST Logistics Group is calling on Philippine logistics firms and government agencies to accelerate supply chain digitalization and prepare for broader blockchain adoption, citing inefficiencies and rising customer demands.

Speaking at the Logistics Services Philippines (LSPH) Conference & Exhibit 2026, FAST Logistics Chief Information Officer Leo Sacamos Jr. highlighted that fragmented and manual systems continue to constrain efficiency across the country’s logistics network. He stressed that digital transformation is now essential for improving agility, resiliency, and operational visibility.

“Digitalization is a major turning point for logistics,” Sacamos said, noting that FAST manages over one million pallet positions across 160 hubs and more than 3,100 transport assets nationwide.

Sacamos emphasized blockchain’s potential to boost transparency, traceability, and transaction security in logistics operations but warned that wider adoption would require stronger government support, enabling regulations, and robust digital infrastructure.

He also flagged low truck utilization as a critical industry challenge, with nearly 70% of trucks returning empty and many FMCG transport vehicles operating below capacity.

Sacamos said real-time analytics, automation, and AI-driven systems can help optimize routes, increase backhaul opportunities, and cut supply chain costs.

FAST is spearheading its own digital transformation, upgrading transport and warehouse systems, including shifting to FarEye’s logistics platform, deploying AI-powered dashcams, and adopting Honeywell Voice-Pick Technology.

Despite growing automation, Sacamos stressed that technology should enhance—not replace—the workforce, freeing employees to focus on higher-value, strategic tasks.
