San Beda College Alabang (SBCA) will now run entirely on renewable energy after signing a power supply agreement with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES), the retail electricity arm of ACEN Corp.
The partnership allows SBCA to source electricity from ACEN’s solar, wind, and geothermal power plants across the country, complementing the school’s existing rooftop solar panels. The deal was made through the government’s Retail Competition and Open Access program, which lets qualified consumers choose their electricity provider and switch to cleaner energy sources.
SBCA expects to save around P8 million annually in electricity costs, funds that the school said could be redirected to academic programs and student services.
The switch is also expected to cut more than 2,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year — equivalent to the carbon absorbed by about 100,000 trees annually.
School officials said the move reflects SBCA’s commitment to sustainability and aims to set an example for students and other academic institutions in supporting cleaner energy use.
The agreement also strengthens ACEN RES’ position as the country’s leading green energy supplier, with a reported 65 percent market share in the renewable retail electricity sector.
The development highlights the growing adoption of renewable energy among Philippine schools and institutions as they seek to lower costs, reduce carbon emissions, and support the country’s clean energy transition.
