Australia has formally joined the Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC), underscoring its growing commitment to the Philippines’ infrastructure modernization, investment promotion, and economic reform agenda as bilateral ties continue to deepen.
Speaking before the Makati Business Club, Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Marc Innes-Brown said Canberra’s participation in the LEC reflects a long-term strategy to help unlock economic opportunities in the Philippines while strengthening regional connectivity and resilience.
“On 11 May, Australia joined the Luzon Economic Corridor Initiative together with existing partners,” Innes-Brown said. “Through mobilizing investment, technical assistance and our new P1.9-billion inclusive economic program called PROGRESS, Australia’s participation in the LEC will support infrastructure, economic resilience and ease-of-doing-business initiatives and deliver practical outcomes for Filipinos.”
The ambassador said the corridor complements Australia’s broader Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040, which aims to expand trade, strengthen supply chains, and encourage greater private-sector investment across the region.
Australia is already engaging corporations and institutional investors to identify opportunities within the corridor and other high-growth sectors in the Philippines. The initiative is expected to catalyze investments in transport infrastructure, logistics, clean energy, and industrial development, further enhancing Luzon’s competitiveness as an investment destination.
The move comes amid steadily expanding economic ties between the two countries.
Australia has identified the Philippines as a priority partner under its Southeast Asia strategy, with cooperation deepening across infrastructure, energy, education, the digital economy, and economic reforms.
By joining the LEC, Australia is reinforcing its role as a long-term investment and development partner while supporting the Philippines’ push to attract quality investments, generate jobs, and improve the ease of doing business.
