Two Aboitiz-run airports top 1 million domestic passengers in Q1 2026

Aboitiz InfraCapital Airports (AIC Airports) reported that combined domestic passenger traffic at Laguindingan International Airport (LIA) in Misamis Oriental and Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA) exceeded 1.02 million in the first three months of 2026. This milestone underscores rising travel demand and the vital role of regional air links in driving local economies.

LIA, the country’s seventh-busiest airport, served 616,661 domestic passengers during the quarter. The figures reflect greater mobility in Northern Mindanao and reinforce the airport’s position as a key entry point to one of the Philippines’ fastest-expanding regions. Meanwhile, BPIA—ranked 10th nationwide—recorded over 412,000 domestic travelers, supported by Bohol’s status as a top tourism spot and home to the country’s only UNESCO Global Geopark.

Beyond passenger growth, BPIA has strengthened its operational and international capacity. Working with the Bohol provincial government and Bureau of Fire Protection, the airport recently earned an ICAO Category 9 rating for rescue and firefighting, enabled by an additional fire truck. Since November 2025, this upgrade allows it to handle larger wide-bodied aircraft. The airport also welcomed its first charter flight from Narita, Japan, and stands to gain further from proposed visa-free entry for Chinese visitors.

Both airports maintain extensive domestic connections: LIA links to Manila, Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo, while BPIA serves Manila, Davao, Iloilo, Clark, and El Nido. AIC Airports stated it will continue improving facilities, service quality, and route networks to support tourism and economic development, aligning with its goal of building world-class gateways that drive progress across the regions it serves.
