Landbank, NIA team up for better agri-fishery funding

Landbank of the Philippines and the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) have partnered to boost farm productivity and financial inclusion, giving farmers and fishers easier access to affordable loans and support services.

The two agencies signed a memorandum of agreement on June 11, as announced Monday. The deal targets irrigated areas nationwide, aiming to raise output and strengthen food security through coordinated assistance.

Landbank president Lynette Ortiz said combining irrigation and financing meets two key needs for better farming results. NIA administrator Eduardo Guillen added the partnership will help the whole agricultural value chain and drive inclusive economic growth.

Under the pact, NIA will identify eligible groups like irrigators’ associations and cooperatives, while Landbank will extend credit via its Agrisenso Plus program. This flagship lending scheme offers low 3 percent annual interest to small farmers, fishers, and agrarian reform beneficiaries.

As of April 2026, Landbank has released ₱3.78 billion in loans under the program, helping over 15,200 borrowers across the country. Both institutions said the effort underscores their commitment to empowering rural communities and supporting sustainable growth.
