DICT launches first phase of Mindanao integrated government network

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has officially opened Phase 1 of the Mindanao Integrated Government Network, part of the larger National Fiber Backbone project. This initiative advances the country’s digital transformation goals to build a more connected Philippines.

Under the first phase, around 500 government offices and facilities have been linked across major Mindanao cities: Cagayan de Oro, Butuan, Davao City, Koronadal, and Pagadian. The high-speed, secure network connects agencies including DepEd, TESDA, DOLE, DPWH, DENR, and the Office of Civil Defense into one unified system.

The project is projected to serve roughly 5.3 million Filipinos. It speeds up access to education, employment, and public services, while enabling better coordination and real-time data sharing among national and local agencies. A key benefit is improved disaster preparedness and emergency response—allowing faster information exchange and action during typhoons, floods, earthquakes, and other crises.

“Connectivity is not just convenience, it is a lifeline. It means better coordination, safety, and quicker help when every second counts. This is about better service and faster response to people’s needs,” said DICT Secretary Henry R. Aguda.

The launch marks another milestone toward a digitally empowered nation, supporting the vision of a “Bagong Pilipinas” where distance no longer limits access and no community is left behind.
