ACMobility and Basic Energy Corp. are fast tracking the country’s electric vehicle transition by joining forces to build a nationwide charging network for electric buses in a move that could remove one of the biggest roadblocks to cleaner public transportation.
The partnership will provide the charging backbone for Basic Energy’s Iwas Taas Pamasahe Transport Solutions Program, which allows transport cooperatives and operators to deploy modern electric buses without upfront capital and gain full ownership after five years.
By tackling two of the industry’s biggest hurdles—financing and charging infrastructure—the companies aim to make electric public transport a more practical and economically viable option while reducing dependence on imported fuel.
“Our transition to electric mobility can only be complete if we also electrify public transport,” said Carla Buencamino, head of mobility infrastructure at ACMobility. “Through our partnership with Basic Energy, we are building an EV charging network that powers not just private vehicles but also public transportation fleets from North to South.”
Under the agreement, ACMobility will establish charging hubs along major transport corridors to support the expanding Love E-Bus fleet while remaining open to private electric vehicle owners.
The next station will rise at the Total service station along the northbound South Luzon Expressway, featuring both DC fast chargers for rapid turnaround and AC chargers for longer charging sessions.
More charging facilities are also planned in Mandaluyong, Cainta, Marikina, Quezon City, Pasay and along EDSA, extending the network across some of Metro Manila’s busiest commuter routes.
Basic Energy President and Chief Executive Officer Oscar De Venecia Jr. said charging infrastructure must expand alongside the country’s growing electric bus fleet if the shift to cleaner transport is to succeed.
The initiative reflects a broader shift in the Philippine mobility landscape, where success will depend not only on putting more EVs on the road, but also on ensuring they always have somewhere to recharge.:::
