DA lifts FMD-related meat import ban on Hungary

The Department of Agriculture has lifted a temporary ban on imports of foot and mouth disease-susceptible animals and their products from Hungary, following approval through Department Circular No. 34 signed on July 8.

The decision comes after the World Organization of Animal Health confirmed Hungary’s containment zone has regained its FMD-free status. All related imports will now follow standard regulations. Between January and April this year, Hungary supplied 5,000 kg of duck meat to the Philippines and no other meat products. FMD is a highly contagious viral disease affecting cloven-hoofed livestock including cattle, pigs, sheep, and goats.
