The Department of Energy has completed revisions to the National Radiological Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan, strengthening the country’s ability to respond to nuclear and radiological incidents. The updated plan aligns with new nuclear regulations and improves coordination across all levels of government, with clearer roles for agencies, local units and response groups. It covers four key scenarios including facility accidents and lost sources, and adds links to security and investigative operations. Changes also reflect the new PhilAtom regulatory body and support the government’s goal of rolling out up to 4,800 megawatts of nuclear capacity by 2050.
