ERC suspends grid delivery fee for energy storage during emergencies

The Energy Regulatory Commission has approved the temporary waiver of delivery service charges for energy storage systems during declared national energy emergencies. The measure applies only to electricity drawn from the grid solely to store and later return for grid support, covering technologies like batteries and pumped hydro. Power used for final consumption still pays regular fees, and other charges remain unchanged. Facilities must register with the national grid operator and use separate metering to qualify. Officials say the rule removes financial barriers to deploying storage when supply is tight, boosting grid stability and protecting consumers from price swings.
