Fortinet upgrades FortiEndpoint platform to secure AI adoption and streamline endpoint security

Global cybersecurity leader Fortinet, listed on the NASDAQ as FTNT, has rolled out new features for its unified endpoint platform FortiEndpoint, designed to help organizations adopt artificial intelligence safely, protect sensitive information, and lower overall security risk. The updated tool now combines AI visibility and control, built-in data protection, endpoint risk scoring, and FortiAI-powered support into a single solution, allowing security teams to better manage AI use, limit data exposure, apply risk-based access rules, and simplify security management across distributed work environments.

Michael Xie, Fortinet founder, president and chief technology officer, noted that organizations need simpler, more effective security management as systems grow more complex and AI becomes more widespread. He explained that the company’s Security Fabric framework is built to merge key security and networking functions across an entire organization to cut down on complexity, improve oversight and boost defenses. With FortiEndpoint, this approach is extended to bring together security, secure access, data protection, AI monitoring and automated support all through one software agent, one management dashboard and one license.

As AI tools and applications become more common in daily work, organizations face growing pressure to keep up with fast-moving, increasingly advanced threats, while many are slowed down by disconnected tools for protection, threat checking, access management and data security. Building on plans first outlined at the Fortinet Accelerate 2026 event, the updated FortiEndpoint unifies all these functions, and connects with the broader Fortinet Security Fabric so endpoint data can inform security rules across the whole network, supporting smarter access controls and more consistent policies.

The updated platform delivers key improvements across three main areas. For securing AI use, it gives a central view of all approved and unapproved AI tools, programs and web-based services running on devices, helping teams spot unregulated or “shadow AI” use. Managers can set clear rules to allow, limit or block these tools based on company policy and compliance requirements, supporting responsible AI adoption while cutting down on policy breaches and unnecessary risk.

To prevent data leaks and internal risks, FortiEndpoint now includes built-in data loss prevention technology that automatically checks information shared with AI tools to stop private details such as personal information, intellectual property or financial records from being sent out improperly. It also gives users real-time prompts and guidance on proper AI use, helping staff follow rules without slowing down their work or requiring extra security tools to be installed.

For easier management, the platform now has FortiAI-Assist, which lets security teams use simple natural language to look into security events, review findings, create reports, spot high-risk devices and fix problems faster. The system also offers tailored advice on policies and threats to help teams prioritize work and scale up their security efforts. It works alongside adaptive access controls that constantly check device health and compliance levels, adjusting access permissions to AI tools and company resources automatically as risk levels change.

Industry analysts have welcomed the integrated approach. Chris DePuy, technology analyst at 650 Group, said Fortinet is addressing the exact needs of many chief information security officers right now: clear visibility into AI use, control over approved and unapproved tools, protection against data leaks, and practical guidance for staff. He added that delivering all these features through FortiEndpoint gives organizations a straightforward way to manage AI-related risk using the same tools and licenses they already use for basic endpoint security.
