    Manila Water on-track to complete 200-MLD Laguna Lake plant by 2025

    Manila Water Co. Inc. is on track to complete the second phase of its East Bay water treatment plant (WTP) project in Pakil, Laguna by early 2025.

    The company has partnered with ACCIONA, PrimeBMD and Santa Clara International to form a consortium that will design and construct the P7.84 billion facility.

    Manila Water said East Bay phase 2 is a 200 million liters per day (MLD) facility providing water to a population of estimated 2 million in Pasig, Pateros, Taguig and nearby towns.

    Byder Nangit, Manila Water senior project manager, said the project forms part of a water supply master plan ensuring water security and supply reliability in the East Zone. Once completed, it will also further diminish dependence on Angat Dam.

    Nangit said phase 2 of the East Bay project also includes the construction of a reservoir, pumping station and the pipelaying of 60 kilometers of 1200 and 1400 millimeter diameter pipes to treat water from the Laguna Lake using the reverse osmosis process and make it potable.

    Manila Water said the first phase of the project was substantially completed and now serving customers of the municipality of Jalajala in Rizal province.

    The project is designed to provide 50 MLD of treated water to a population of 390,000 in the towns of Jalajala, Pililla, Baras, Cardona, Morong and Binangonan in Rizal Province, complemented by two submarine pipes traversing the bottom of the Laguna Lake.

    Manila Water serves customers in Makati, Pasig, Pateros, Marikina, Mandaluyong, San Juan, Taguig, some parts of Quezon City and Manila; and several towns in Rizal province that include Taytay, Teresa, Angono, Antipolo, Baras, Binangonan, Cainta, San Mateo and Rodriguez.

    It also has partnerships with water districts in Tagum, Davao del Norte; Bulacan; Clark in Pangasinan; Calasiao in Pangasinan; San Jose in Nueva Ecija; Laguna; Boracay in Aklan; Cebu; as well as with property developments through Estate Water.

    Overseas, Manila Water has operations in Thailand, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and Myanmar.
