    Initial typhoon Egay damage minimal

    The initial cost of damage to agriculture by typhoon Egay is estimated at P255,000, according to data from the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center.

    The DA attached agency said typhoon Egay’s damage equal 4 metric tons of goods tended by 77 farmers in 40 hectares of crop land.

    It said damage and losses monitored in Calabarzon and Mimaropa were of seedlings and newly planted rice.

    Affected farmers and fishers were extended assistance in the form of rice, corn, and assorted vegetable seeds, drugs and biologics for livestock and poultry and fingerlings for fisherfolk from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources

    The agency said the Agricultural Credit Policy Council stands ready with loans of up to P25,000 payable over three years at zero interest for farmers in affected areas.

    In a separate development, the Department of Energy (DOE) reported power outages in hydro power plants in Benguet borne of strong winds and clogged intakes due to flash floods.

    Some off-grid small power utilities group diesel-fired plant outages due to typhoon have since restored as well.

    As for the National Electrification Administration (NEA), it said that of 45 electric cooperatives affected by the typhoon, 26 operate business as usual but 13 reported partial power interruptions and ongoing restoration efforts.

    The NEA said 6 electric cooperatives reported total power loss including the Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative, the Ilocos Sur Electric Cooperative, Cagayan II Electric Cooperative, Abra Electric Cooperative, Mountain Province Electric Cooperative and the Aurora Electric Cooperative.
