The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has ordered all port management offices across the country to prepare even now for the new tropical depression still outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) which has intensified into a tropical storm and will be named “Falcon” once inside PAR.
PPA general Mmanager Jay Santiago said such preemptive measures help minimize the impact of Super typhoon Egay in all ports along its path.
He reported minimal damage thus far in ports across Northern Luzon due to strong winds but other than that, all PMOs have followed standard operating procedure during typhoon season.
He expressed satisfaction that an inspection of stranded passengers at the Port Passenger Terminal in Manila’s North Harbor have all boarded safely with the assistance of the PPA, the local government social services department of Manila, and the Philippine Red Cross.
According to him, the PPA conducted pre- and post-typhoon inspections to ensure port facilities are in order or in need of fixing and satisfied that everyone was well prepared ahead of time.
NCR-North Port Manager Aurora Mendoza said shower areas and comfort rooms have been improved with hot meals at the ready and on stand-by for stranded passengers.
Other than free charging stations for mobile phones, the PPA also provided free water refilling stations and hot meals for the passengers.
The PPA also provides free film show for the stranded passengers featuring Filipino movies.
